The diamond - perhaps the most desired, fantasized about, sought after of all gemstones. While a large part of its appeal is tied to the bonds of matrimony, the diamond stands alone as the most coveted stone, both within an engagement ring and without.

It is said that the tradition of the diamond engagement ring began in 1477 when Archduke Maximillian of Hamburg presented Mary of Burgundy a diamond ring as promise of betrothal… but why did the diamond engagement ring stick and not a ruby or sapphire engagement ring?

Perhaps the convention evolved because the diamond has incredible strength and durability, as should the bonds of marriage. Or perhaps because the diamond is said to protect its wearers from evil. Or perhaps it’s because, as white light is composed of all the colors of the rainbow, the diamond is the most balanced of all gems and is the one that is a combination of them all.

The diamond is said to enhance in its wearer courage, fortitude, healing, protection, spirituality, and mental awareness. Whatever the reason for its desirability, lucky April for getting this birthstone!
