Religious Jewelry for Easter and Passover

For Christians, Easter is a holiday celebrating Christ’s resurrection after his death on the cross.  Easter is the first Sunday after the Full Moon, after March 21, the Spring equinox.

Passover is a Jewish holy day and festival commemorating God sparing the Israelites when he “passed over” their first born sons, saving them from the Plagues released against Egypt.  (Their doors were marked with the blood of a sacrificial lamb.)

The event also led to the Isaelites liberation from slavery.  Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan (or our March and April).

Jewelry is often used to honor the events that were so significant to these religions.  The Christian cross and Judaism’s Star of David are the most recognized emblems of their faiths.

Christian crosses can be found in everything from very simple gold or silver pieces of jewelry to intricate, ornate, stylized designs, inlaid with diamonds or other gemstones.  Cross jewelry can be rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rosaries.

Other than  the Cross, emblems utilized in Christian jewelry include fish, doves, praying hands, and the Bible.

Jewelry design for the Star of David is equally as diverse.

elaborate design variations using a variety of gems and molding materials.  Other than the Star of David, Jewish symbols found in jewelry include the Hamsa hand, the Torah scroll, and the Chai.
