Trying to write an article about December’s birthstone was harder than I thought it would be because every where you look, a different stone is listed for the month. I’ve seen Turquoise, Tanzanite, Zircon and Blue Topaz all listed as December’s birthstone. Each of these stones has different characteristics and value. One commonality is that each can be found in shades of blue. Turquoise is bluish green,:Tanzanite, purplish blue: Zircon, usually colorless but becomes blue when heated, and Blue Topaz which can be found in shades varying from sky to deep blue. Finding the stone for you should depend on your criteria. Such things as the stone’s hardness, clarity, depth of color as well as price are all important to consider before making a jewelry selection. So which stone is the correct birthstone for December? I think the answer to that is simple, pick the stone you like the best and go with it.
