New York designer Judith Ripka creates unique jewelry. I’m not making this statement lightly, as there are many creative people are out there designing original, gorgeous pieces of jewelry. Ripka, however, takes the concept of “unique” to a whole new level. Her intent is to create jewelry that is both classic and modern, sophisticated and every-day, treasured yet wearable. I’ve read similar concepts from other designers but what makes Ripka different is that her jewelry doesn’t have one single aspect that separates it from the crowd, her designs are unique on a multitude of levels. For example, Ripka wasn’t satisfied with using 18K gold so she derived a special, exclusive formula to create a gold alloy called 18k Celadon which achieves a softer look to compliment most skin tones. Ripka plated sterling with Rhodium, a platinum derivative, so that her silver collection doesn’t tarnish, scratch or discolor over time. The stones used in Judith Ripka jewelry range from fine quality diamonds to a variety of unusual, precious stones. Ripka is noted for personally searching out one-of-a-kind stones herself from around the globe. She develops her own custom cuts and faceting to highlight and enhance the chosen stones. My favorite Ripka “uniqueness” is the secret heart that she hides in every one of her designs. She likes to call the heart a “tiny surprise” for the wearer. There are many other details that are exclusive to Ripka’s pieces beyond the ones I’ve highlighted. Regardless, it’s easy to see that Judith Ripka jewelry is beautiful and timeless as well as unique.
