I’ve heard of the term “Bezel Setting” in reference to diamond and gemstone jewelry or watches but was unsure of its exact meaning. Well, after a little research I found that a Bezel Setting is a type of setting where a gem or watch face is set evenly with or just below a rimming, metallic band. The inherent intent behind the style is to provide greater protection for the gem or watch face against scratching or chipping. Bezel Settings are frequently used with less hardy gemstones such as opals or black onyx or with easily damaged crystal. The type of metal used in forming a Besel setting varies widely from fine gold or silver in jewelry to tough alloys such as stainless steel in watches. The use of this type of setting provides the wearer with some sense of security that the jewelry will be undamaged by normal use.
