Diamond and Black Diamond Peace Pendant

As Martin Luther King Day approaches, we think about the “harmony of man” that Mr. King dreamed and preached about.  To me, “harmony of man” is exemplified by the word, “Peace”.  The 60’s was an era defined by the Civil Rights movement, anti-war protests, nuclear disarmament and the Peace Sign that came to symbolize the entire era.  The symbol first appeared in 1958 when Englishman Gerald Holtom merged the flag signals for the letters N and D (representing Nuclear Disarmament).  In 1960, the symbol spread and began to appear on buttons worn by students on college campuses in the U.S.  As the 60’s progressed, the symbol came to represent not only the fight against the use of nuclear weapons, but the peace movement in general.  Today, the symbol is still being used.  Notably, the “Peace and Harmony” sculpture dedicated to John Lennon in Liverpool, England, exhibited the Peace Sign along with other symbols.  The Peace Sign is frequently found in symbolic jewelry, simply formed in gold or silver, or elaborately embellished with diamonds and gemstones.  Some jewelry designers, such as AuraGento, have created some truly exceptional necklaces, pendants and earrings that make a statement that never goes out of style.
