Tired of wearing flag pins on President’s Day?  True, the flag is probably the most patriotic symbol there is and wearing a pin or other piece of jewelry depicting the flag expresses loyalty and pride in our nation.  Every president and presidential candidate wears such a pin on his jacket label at just about every public function.  But, the most predominant symbol of the premier office that comes to mind is the bald eagle, our national bird.  John Kennedy applauded the founding father’s choice of the eagle as our national bird because, “The fierce beauty and proud independence of this great bird aptly symbolizes the strength and freedom of America.”  Though the original intent was for the bald eagle to symbolize the U.S. through coinage and stamps, it became more and more linked to the executive office.  The bald eagle is the central figure in the presidential seal; it’s proudly dominant on the oval office rug; it’s displayed on the lectern from which the President speaks; and it’s the code name given to the President by the Secret Service.  A stylized eagle is also apparently on the M&Ms on the President’s desk.  So, in honor of our esteemed leader, it’s a great idea to opt for symbolic jewelry depicting the eagle.
