As always, this years Oscar night attendees were decked out in a stunning display of glittering diamonds and an assortment of other dazzling gemstone, platinum and gold jewelry.  Even for these members of the uber wealthy elite, a large number of the spectacular designer pieces were borrowed for the evening.  Most of us can only imagine owning such fine rings, earrings, brooches, and bracelets as prices start in the range of a vehicle or small home.  Alas, we, the common folk, find that there really is no decision here… we may covet the premier class sparklers, but we need to have the mini-van.  However, we can admire and if we take the time, we can find jewelry that is similar without having to rob a bank.

Actresses such as the event’s co-host, Anne Hathaway, looked beautiful wearing gorgeous diamond jewelry.  Other actresses made jewelry choices that I was not as impressed with.  Actress Marisa Tomei, as an example, wore oversize earrings in a daisy design that I felt were not only too large, but garish.  Some times excess in jewelry is not a good thing.  Regardless, admiring (or not) Academy Award fashion and jewelry is a ritual we all enjoy.
