When most of us see Palm Tree jewelry, we’re reminded of tropical paradises with warm breezes, sandy beaches, blue skies, and coconuts. Many of us don’t know of the symbolism behind the tree. In fact, the palm has historically been a symbol of many things to several diverse cultures and religions. Early Christians saw the palm branch as an emblem of victory, either against an actual enemy or an internal one of faith over temptation. The term “Palm Sunday” is a celebration of Jesus’ triumphant return to Jerusalem. The palm leaf is often found pictured on the tombs of martyrs to mark their achievements. In Judaism, the palm represents peace and is seen as the Tree of Life. The Prophet Muhammad built his home from the palm tree and to many Muslims, the palm represents hospitality. The ancient Greeks, the Assyrians and the Egyptians all saw the palm as symbolic to their cultures. Today, the Palmetto is the state tree of both Florida and South Carolina and is seen on the flags of quite a few countries. Where ever the reference, the Palm is uniformly seen as a positive symbol. Wearing palm or palmetto symbolic jewelry can’t help but bring the wearer good fortune.
