I was a member of a sorority in college and I clearly recall occasions when I worried over selecting an appropriate gift for a fellow sister. Birthdays, Christmas, initiation, big sister/little sister ceremonies, and graduation were important events where gifts were expected. As a gift recipient, I was always especially pleased to be presented with a gift that represented our common link with our sisterhood. Tee-shirts, pledge pins, stuffed animals dressed in Greek attire bearing our letters…. these were all thoughtful gifts that could generally only be mail ordered through our national chapter’s magazine. Times have changed however. Now personalized Greek jewelry is much more widely available. I’m especially fond of the “Big Sister” double heart pendant referenced in the photo link above. The ability to engrave a sister’s name, as well as the sorority, university, and chapter is absolutely the perfect gift from one sister to another. Sorority memories can be some of the happiest memories of college and the friendships made over a fleeting period of our young adulthood. Jewelry that reminds us of these times is something to be cherished for a lifetime.
