Rebecca jewelry, created by Italian designer Alessandro Testi, is becoming widely popular because of its quality and innovative designs. The company prides itself on creating and updating its lines so that they are consistently modern, fashionable, and fresh. One of Rebecca’s top lines is called the Tropezienne collection. When I viewed a few of the pieces in this collection, the thing that caught my attention was the dissimilarity between many of the pieces. To me, the concept of a collection implies commonality. As I was unfamiliar with the term Tropezienne, I looked it up and discovered that the word originated in the 1950s when a chef in St. Tropez was asked to provide a name for one of his delicious pastries. The story behind the request is what makes it unique. Apparently a film crew, including Brigitte Bardot, so loved the tart that they wanted it named. The rich tart is made simply with eggs, flour, milk and butter and is now known for the fact that it is almost always homemade. The name of the collection now makes sense to me. It implies the romance and glitter of St. Tropez and Brigette Bardot, throws in the imagery of a rich and creamy dessert, then combines these with happy memories of home, Mom, and apple pie-like ideals. Hence, Tropezienne is a perfect name for a line of designer jewelry that is fashionable and stylish yet unique, simple, and comfortable.
