One of the most compelling parts of the Christmas story is the story of the angels’ appearances to foretell the birth of Christ. Angels, including the archangel Gabriel, were said to have appeared to Mary to inform her of the upcoming birth, then to Joseph to assure him of the child’s holy conception, and to the shepherds to relay the news of the Christ child’s birth in Bethlehem. Angels have been symbolic of the Christian faith for a very long time. They represent, not only a strong, visible connection to God, but are also seen as protectors against evil, hence the term “Guardian Angels”. Today, many of us put angels on the top of our Christmas trees, both as a prominent emblem of the holiday, and as homage for the important role angels played in spreading the word about the holy event. Wearing angel jewelry is a great way to celebrate Christmas because the religious jewelry is an overt sign of Christian faith and in fact, represents the true reason for the holiday.
