TAG Heuer’s Monaco

I love watches. It’s a little geeky, but as a one-time apprentice watch maker, one look at tiny, perfectly formed gear trains with ruby bearings is enough to make my heart go pitter-pat. And nothing in the industry says pitter-pat quite like TAG Heuer.

TAG Heuer has been an unstoppable force since their beginning in 1860, a company built on “entrepreneurship, innovation, an obsession with ultimate precision, and a deep love of prestigious sports.” Indeed, TAG Heuer is the only brand to combine luxury and performance in the ultimate timepiece, a wristwatch that is accurate to 1/10th, 1/100th and 1/1000th of a second.

And now, in honor of the 40th anniversary of Steve McQueen and TAG’s memorable performance in the racing film Le Mans, the legendary Monaco chronograph will be rereleased in June of this year.

This watch will include the original 1969 revolutionary self winding Calibre 11 movement in a square casing with a dark blue face, and only 1,000 of them will be in circulation. How much, you ask? $7,900. Not bad for perfection.

Yes, there was so much to explore and ogle during the 2009 New York Fashion Week that I’m still digging up wows! This time, admittedly, was purely by accident.  I was surfing for a necklace unrelated to fashion week in Google images and found the stunning photo from Vogue below. I was ...continue
The Diamond - April Birthstone

The diamond - perhaps the most desired, fantasized about, sought after of all gemstones. While a large part of its appeal is tied to the bonds of matrimony, the diamond stands alone as the most coveted stone, both within an engagement ring and without. It is said that the tradition of ...continue

Why do we love the jewelry we do? Is it merely pleasing to our eye? Or is it something more mysterious?  Many people would attest that certain stones speak to them in ways that others do not.  that stones to have inexplicable influence over our minds and bodies. Our tastes might ...continue

Between Michelle Obama and Fall 2009 New York Fashion Week, Jason Wu certainly has been the talk of the town. And if Ms. Obama hadn’t already sealed this rising star’s fate with her repeated endorsement of his designs, his presentation on the Promenade certainly did! The look that Mr. Wu put ...continue

Before Michelle Obama was the First Lady we visited her classic jewelry style in Cultured Pearls. Now that she's living in the White House, however, we've entered a whole new ball game. The whole world has sat up and taken notice of Michelle Obama's striking style, ease, and grace. She dresses ...continue

Alright, time to wrap up award season with the final Best and Worst of Jewelry... the Academy Awards issue! Academy Awards - Jewelry Highlights My hands-down favorite jewelry ensemble of the red carpet was that of the gorgeous Angelina Jolie. E! Online likened her dramatic look to an evil Disney queen, to ...continue

A few weeks ago, Austin's own Kathleen Allison and I chatted jewelry talk at the Frisco Restaurant on the north side of town. Discovering her life’s work, she told me, all started with a lapis necklace her mother gave her shortly before she passed away. Kat restrung the beads, adding her ...continue

I love watching the Grammy Awards for one reason and one reason only; the stars never cease to amaze with the getups they show up in. This year was no exception. Some gorgeous, some - less than, to put it mildly. The Grammys - Jewelry Highlights Two words: Neil Lane. Before I even ...continue

Several starlets sported a similar smashing ensemble during the 2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards last week, though you'd never know it at a glance. Penelope Cruz, Anne Hathaway, and Eva Longoria Parker cut quite drastically different figures, but the components of each outfit were the same: long, sweeping dress with an ...continue

Sorry it's been so long, friends! I've just returned to Austin from spending Thanksgiving with the family in snowy Colorado. The pewter skies and twirling crystalline flurries inspired me to incorporate these holiday touches into my life back home in Austin as Christmas and New Years approach. In anticipation of our ...continue
