Cultured Pearls

Michelle Obama and her pearls: a much discussed topic of late. Say what you will about who she may or may not be trying to emulate, but she certainly wears her pearls well - single, double, or triple strand, long or short.

When it comes to pearls, does size matter? According to Mikki Taylor, beauty director and cover editor of Essence magazine, Michelle Obama’s pearls are more than just an accessory. “Those are large pearls. Those are pearls you have to deal with.  They say, ‘I’m here to do business.’” My pearls have never spoken to me, but if they did, I think they’d say something more like, “I’m smashing and give a nod to the powerful women before me. I’m also incredibly versatile and more than a little sexy.”

Talking pearls aside, the Obamas certainly are the talk of the town these days. I’ve no doubt that fashionistas everywhere will have gads to gab over for the next four years.
