The Jewish faith does not believe that God should be represented in any form, including stylized symbols seen  in jewelry.  However, there are symbols that are universally accepted and proudly displayed by Jews around the world.  One such motif is the highly recognizable Star of David, a six pointed star that symbolizes God’s rule over the universe.  The two triangles denote man’s interconnection between contrary forces, like good versus evil, spiritual versus physical, and the relationship between man and God.  The Chai is another familiar figure in Judaism that means “life.”  The symbol’s intent is to express best wishes and well-being.  An upcoming high holiday,  Rosh Hashana, celebrates the Jewish New Year and ends with Yom Kippur.  Symbolic religious jewelry is a wonderful way to commemorate the faith and the holidays.

Jewelry as Good Luck Charms

I personally like  symbolic jewelry.  There are many designer rings, earrings, pendants, and charms that are engraved, embossed, or shaped as symbols associated with good luck.  Shamrocks or four-leaf clovers, horseshoes, pennies, ladybugs and rabbits feet are all easily recognizable and popular symbols found in jewelry.  Less known symbols that ...continue

Finding jewelry for men that is both masculine and attractive can sometimes be difficult.  One very popular trend that fits both of these criteria are Dog Tags.  The concept is wonderful because dog tags invoke the macho image of our military heroes yet they aren't bulky, heavy, or cumbersome like ...continue
About Promise Rings

What are promise rings?  When I was in college I knew girls who received promise rings from their boyfriends but was never quite sure exactly what a promise ring was.  Well, a promise ring is basically a pre-engagement ring.  In the past, men who were unable to marry for some ...continue

As a child of parents who owned a Pennsylvania jewelry store, Gregg Ruth's interest in and love for fine jewelry developed naturally at an early age.  Deciding to follow in his parents footsteps, he opened his own store in Tennessee in 1977.  Ruth found that simply being a merchant wasn't ...continue

Watching the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, is exciting and fun.  I know the athletes at this and past Olympics have enjoyed exchanging pins representing their native countries.  What other jewelry is there, though, that's indicative of both the event and particular sports?  Charms are the best answer.  Whatever ...continue

With the New Orleans Saints winning the Superbowl in such inspirational fashion,  I wondered what connection the city of New Orleans had to Saints.   I was aware of the city's French Catholic heritage so it didn't take much of a leap to connect the dots to the concept of Patron ...continue
