Jewelry for St. Patrick’s Day
Saint Patrick’s Day is a fun, cheerful day that brings out the Irish in each of us, irregardless of whether or not our heritage actually arose from bonnie Ireland. Everybody loves a good-hearted celebration. When we think of symbols for Saint Patrick’s Day, we inevitably think Leprechauns and Shamrocks and seek out these symbols to wear on this special day, always bearing in mind to include a touch of vivid, emerald green. We don’t want to be pinched, afterall. Most jewelry that we find supposedly depicting the shamrock however are actually stylized four leaf clovers. Shamrocks have three leaves which are said to symbolize the Holy Trinity rather than good fortune. Since the vast majority of us don’t know the difference, wearing either should get you by without inducing critical comment. Finding Leprechaun jewelry is a bit more difficult as it tends to appear seasonally. Still, great sales can be found after the celebration is over. Of note is that probably one of the most enduring symbols of Ireland, the Claddagh, is rarely included in Saint Paddy’s festivities. The Claddagh consists of two hands grasping a heart topped by a crown. The hands represent friendship; the heart, love; and the crown, loyalty. The symbol has been prominent in Ireland since Roman times and wearing a Claddagh ring is a wonderful (and different) way to express your support of the day and the country… just don’t forget to add some green to your wardrobe!
