Jewelry Designer Spotlight: Charles Krypell
New Yorker Charles Krypell was trained as a sculptor but shifted his artistic passion to creating fine jewelry when he found that by focusing on small works, in this case jewelry, he could create timeless pieces much more quickly. Bringing his experience as a Sculptor into this different field, made him realize something was missing from jewelry in general: that most pieces, even fine jewelry, were one dimensional. The wearer and admirers were expected to view the pieces from the top. Krypell adamantly notes that people are not stationary. They wave their hands and move about, and the jewelry they wear should be multi-dimensional, and provide a view from all visible angles. Krypell prides himself in designing “balanced” jewelry that flows. Krypell continues with this line of thought by selecting premium raw metals and gemstones that will blend with other pieces if a collector opts to create an ensemble at some future point in time. Charles Krypell jewelry is meant to be a unique, romantic, work of art and will be treasured by both the lucky wearer and future generations.
