Blue Diamond Flower Ring

To me, Blue Diamonds are stones of unparalleled beauty, mystique, legend, and even ancient curses…. all because of the infamous Hope Diamond.  The dazzling deep blue wonder is the centerpiece of the Smithsonian Institute’s Natural History Museum and is the most visited gemstone in the world.  The 45.5 carat, almost incandescent stone, is said to have been the eye piece of an ancient Hindu idol and that when stolen, brought calamity to anyone possessing or altering it.  Through time, legend claims that suicide, rape, financial ruin, and horrible death, such as by beheading and being torn apart by wolves, are linked to those who possessed the stone.  Today, the curse may be as much of a reason for the stone’s powerful draw as is it’s incredible beauty.  In general though, blue diamonds are diamonds with a color tint that fall outside of the Gemological Institute of America’s rating scale.  These colored or “Fancy Diamonds” are simply rated and classified by the color, such as “light blue”.  Sometimes, due to the rarity and popularity of a particular color, these diamonds may be more valuable than white diamonds.   Blue diamond jewelry is sure to be noticed and admired.  Wear it… if you dare.

Diamonds are diamonds, right? However, historically something about brown colored diamonds just wasn't appealing to jewelry lovers.  Perhaps it was the fact that brown  is one of the most common shades of natural diamonds or that the hue is a result of either an impurity or structural defect in the ...continue
