Jewelry for the Beach
Summertime is in full swing and many of us are gearing up for our annual trip to the beach. So, what jewelry should you bring along on your vacation? This question should really be about where you expect to wear the jewelry. Do you intend to wear the jewelry as a clothing accessory or is the jewelry to be worry-free, the kind that is worn and forgotten, even in the ocean or on the beach itself? This is important to know because salt water and sand can damage many types of metals in a variety of ways including scratching or corroding. Some metals, such as titanium and tungsten, are both scratch and corrosive resistant, making jewelry formed from these metals an excellent alternative to softer metals such gold and silver. Several watch manufacturers offer “Dive Watches” which are specially designed to be worn in the ocean. With any piece of jewelry, make sure that the piece securely attaches before going into the water. Jewelry lost in the ocean is pretty much lost forever.
Jewelry worn off the beach is all about personal style and not about hardiness. Designers have created a multitude of fashion rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets and necklaces with images that reflect the season. Stylized sealife, mermaids, seashells and beach accessories are easily found and fun to wear.
