Jewelry and New Year’s Resolutions
Many of us start out the New Year by proclaiming our intent to stick to some resolution that will make us a better person in some way. At first, we’re highly determined, even eager, to adhere to the promise we made to ourselves. We’re confident that by the end of the year, we’ll be thinner, smarter, have retained our tempers, stopped swearing, gone to church, or stopped any number of assorted bad habits. Unfortunately, most of us don’t last through the end of January. We forget to be good. One way to remind us of our pledge, is to utilize a visible symbol of the resolution and place it in the path of temptation. I’ve heard of people who want to lose weight, for example, who have hung uncomplimentary pictures of themselves on the refrigerator to steer themselves away from tasty snacks. But, what happens, when they are away from home? Jewelry, on the other hand, can serve as a constant reminder of the desire to meet a goal, especially if we decide not to remove the jewelry until the goal is attained. Finding a piece of jewelry that reminds us of what we want to achieve can easily be accomplished with a little imagination. Charms in the shape of scales may help us lose weight, necklaces styled as turtles can remind us to slow down, pins depicting athletes may push us to exercise. So, help yourself stick to your resolution, wear a jewelry reminder.

Malachite is one of those absolutely gorgeous semi-precious gemstones that is rarely seen in jewelry because of it's delicacy. Possessing a natural, strong, light to deep green hue, the opaque and banded mineral is a vibrant display of silky, lustrous color. However, the mineral also rates a weak 3.5 to ...continue

Many of us spend a lot of time decorating our homes for the Christmas season. Every year we put up the tree, hang the lights, and place holiday themed decorations in strategic places about the house. For me, holiday decorations are placed in four general categories: inexpensive nick-knacks, gifts, collectibles, ...continue

A tie for Dad, a sweater for Mom, a gift basket for Uncle Joe... we are all tired of giving and getting the same gift every year for Christmas. The most difficult part of gift giving is finding something that is not only within our budget, but that the recipient ...continue

Designer jewelry by Belle Etoile is all about expressing yourself. The name was chosen by the San Francisco based company because the French words translate to "beautiful star", with the implied intent being that the wearer would shine like "a star in her own reality show called life". Many of ...continue

One of the most compelling parts of the Christmas story is the story of the angels' appearances to foretell the birth of Christ. Angels, including the archangel Gabriel, were said to have appeared to Mary to inform her of the upcoming birth, then to Joseph to assure him of the ...continue

One hot jewelry trend this season is blending black and white diamonds in creative patterns. I'm not always one to hop on the band wagon to high fashion, but this one I really like. Black and white are the perfect colors (or non-colors?) to accessorize any outfit. They just "go" ...continue

I'm one of those people who likes to start my Christmas shopping early for two simple reasons. First, I am not a crowd person. The very thought of going out to shop on Black Friday brings shudders instead of a thrill to me. Second, I've learned that by starting my ...continue

When I was a kid, one of the iconic candies were Sweethearts. The crispy sugar confection was a basic staple for any Valentines Day and there was always a great deal of fun and enjoyment when the candies were passed out to fellow classmates. I can still hear the snickers ...continue

The concept behind stackable rings is intriguing. A stackable ring is one that can be "stacked" or situated comfortably against another ring where the two (or more) rings appear to blend or complement each other. The idea allows an individual to create what equates to custom jewelry without the correlating ...continue
