Jewelry and New Year’s Resolutions
Many of us start out the New Year by proclaiming our intent to stick to some resolution that will make us a better person in some way. At first, we’re highly determined, even eager, to adhere to the promise we made to ourselves. We’re confident that by the end of the year, we’ll be thinner, smarter, have retained our tempers, stopped swearing, gone to church, or stopped any number of assorted bad habits. Unfortunately, most of us don’t last through the end of January. We forget to be good. One way to remind us of our pledge, is to utilize a visible symbol of the resolution and place it in the path of temptation. I’ve heard of people who want to lose weight, for example, who have hung uncomplimentary pictures of themselves on the refrigerator to steer themselves away from tasty snacks. But, what happens, when they are away from home? Jewelry, on the other hand, can serve as a constant reminder of the desire to meet a goal, especially if we decide not to remove the jewelry until the goal is attained. Finding a piece of jewelry that reminds us of what we want to achieve can easily be accomplished with a little imagination. Charms in the shape of scales may help us lose weight, necklaces styled as turtles can remind us to slow down, pins depicting athletes may push us to exercise. So, help yourself stick to your resolution, wear a jewelry reminder.
