About Venetian Glass Jewelry
For hundreds of years, Venice and the nearby Island of Murano have been the home of the world’s premier glass artisans. In fact, this small area is the source of many of the innovations made in the development and design of fine, decorative glass. Crystalline glass, enameled glass, milk glass, multi-colored glass, gold threaded glass, and even glass reminiscent of gems are all said to have been created in this small section of Italy.
Today, the tradition continues, and the term “Venetian Glass” pretty much epitomizes quality, decorative glass. Decorative Venetian glass has many uses beyond glassware or window panes, and is often found in jewelry as well. There are many reasons why Venetian glass jewelry is very appealing. First and most obvious, glass is a lot less expensive than genuine gemstones. Second, the color and design within the glass is very much left to the ability and imagination of the artist. Each piece is unique. Finally, glass gives the appearance of gemstones and makes a wonderful and colorful substitute. Venetian glass is said to be heartier than other glass but it is still somewhat fragile and should be worn with care.
