Jewelry as a Mother’s Day Gift Idea
Finding the perfect gift for Mother’s Day is never an easy task. All Mom’s have different tastes and its hard to find something suitable for your Mother’s particular preferences.
Jewelry has always been my fallback gift for my Mother. I can almost always find something that’s meaningful and personal to her. One of the gifts that she most treasures is her Mother’s ring. It’s not an uncommon gift for Moms, but I really like the configurable rings, where I can select from a large array of ring designs, metals, gemstones and engravings. Also called Family rings or Birthstone rings, this jewelry is custom and unique. Sometimes companies also offer Mother’s Bracelets or Mother’s Pendants in addition to rings.
Another gift idea is Cameo jewelry.
The Cameo has been around since as early as 3500 B.C. when the Sumerians and Egyptians carved scarabs and stones as decorative pieces to honor royalty and the Gods. The Greeks and Romans continued with the concept in the first century.
The cameos of their era were often portraits of important family members, depictions of mythical stories, and talismans of love and protection. After a long decline in popularity, the cameo reappeared after the Middle Ages when European royalty began to wear the pieces as carved works of art. Cameos were first carved in glass and shell, and then in a variety of stones including agate and onyx. Today, it isn’t difficult to find cameos with carved depictions of mother and child. These cameos can be found in necklaces, earrings and in bracelets.
Finally, jewelry design studios like Soulmate and Mother & Child by Janel Russell, create pieces specifically to celebrate the Mother and child bond.
SoulMate Diamonds signify strong connections. SoulMate jewelry is designed around two matched, naturally occurring diamonds. These two diamonds are taken from the same piece of rough. The company’s intentional implication is that the diamonds were created together billions of
years ago and that they were meant to stay together. SoulMate designs represent an eternal link; husband & wife, mother & child, sisters, or best friends. SoulMate jewelry comes with a certification of authenticity and an explanation of the stone’s connection. The diamonds utilized are always conflict-free.
Jewelry Designer Janel Russell’s Mother & Child design, was created for herself. She wanted something to symbolize her love for son.
Her intent was to create something very personal but she found after the design was complete, it was more about the bond between every mother and child. It had a deeper meaning: the connection and devotion to family. Mother & Child jewelry pieces are usually pendants, earrings or charms
in gold or silver.
