July’s Birthstone: The Ruby

The ruby is July’s birthstone. It is a beautiful red gemstone and special to not only those born in July. Red is the universal color for love and passion, so it is easy to see why it is adored. The color red is said to increase blood pressure and the rate of respiration. Rubies have been prized throughout history; thought to represent power, rubies were worn by the royals. They can range in color from light to dark red and are the second hardest mineral following diamonds.
