2009 SAG Awards - Less is More

Several starlets sported a similar smashing ensemble during the 2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards last week, though you’d never know it at a glance.

Penelope Cruz, Anne Hathaway, and Eva Longoria Parker cut quite drastically different figures, but the components of each outfit were the same: long, sweeping dress with an eye-catching neckline, small, round, diamond earrings, and bangle style bracelets.

This chic, minimalist adornment is a smart move, especially if the one being adorned is a gorgeous woman in a gorgeous dress. These classic beauties remind us of one of the number one fashion tenants: less is more.

If you’re thinking about incorporating this style into your own arsenal, keep a few things in mind:

1. The more flashy or striking the dress, the less decoration the rest of your parts need. Let the dress highlight your assets; don’t detract from your appearance with large or overly flashy jewelry. Small earrings and a simple bracelet will provide just enough sparkle to catch the eye.

2. Consider wearing your hair down, or if you do wear it up, keep it loose and voluminous like Eva. This look could quickly turn severe if you’re not careful.

3. Keep your shoes simple. You’ll defeat the entire purpose of chic and minimalist if everyone is preoccupied by your feet.
