One especially hot trend in jewelry design this year is the Key Pendant.  Why a key though?  What is the key meant to symbolize?  My first impression was that the key was meant to represent “the key to someone’s heart”, implying that by wearing the key pendant, the wearer holds the power to unlock the heart of the buyer.  It’s a beautiful analogy and I think most people implicitly “get” this intent.  However, the key can also mean something else entirely.  I see a key as a tool to “open doors”.  I think in this context, a key is a wonderful gift for graduates or teenagers on the cusp of maturity.  The key is a symbol of opportunity and of the hope that lies in the future.  I’ve also seen comments from buyers where they explained why they purchased key pendants.  They cited such things as the key’s uniqueness, the “Victorian” look, or simply that they liked them as their reason for buying.  In sum, Key pendants may symbolize many things or nothing at all.  Regardless of the purchaser’s intent, key pendants are stylish and noticeable pieces of jewelry.
